The Problem:
Students of Kensington Aldridge Academy were thrilled to move into their new temporary school buildings, after the tragic fire at Grenfell Tower left their school uninhabitable.
Cordoned off for police investigations, the original school was located at the base of the tower. For the last few weeks of the summer term students were temporarily taken in by other local schools, increasing their numbers by many hundreds and putting a huge strain on their resources.
When it became apparent that the school would not be able to reopen for the next term, an action plan was put in place to create a new, temporary school to house the 900+ students for the coming months. This plan was welcomed by parents and teachers alike, who were concerned about the impact the harrowing view of the tower would have on the children each day.
EOC Services' Solution:
Creating a whole school in just a few weeks is a big job fraught with challenges, but contractors and local businesses pulled together to get the job done in just 9 weeks.
EOC Services of Downham Market was one of the businesses to get involved. Working quickly and efficiently they installed all the necessary air conditioning and ventilation, completing this important part of the job within their 6 week timeframe.
The new school opened its doors on 18th September 2017. Boasting 8 science labs, 2 IT suites, 2 libraries, a drama studio, dance studio and an Autism centre, where the teachers of KAA will be able to continue to provide the high standard of education that these children deserve.
Conclusion:
We pulled out all the stops to make sure the new school project was completed quickly and to the highest possible standard. It’s great to see all the happy children back in a school with some stability after such a difficult time. We’re really pleased to have been a part of the solution.
